Let me start with what Poshmark isn’t
So many friends out there try to sell us their stuff: their diets, their purses, their makeup, their leggings, their jewelry, their shakes and so on. Some of these “opportunities” turn out to be multi-level marketing companies. So I get why people, family and friends for that matter, immediately roll their eyes when they hear me talk about Poshmark. But you see, Poshmark IS NOT an MLM, and those who are willing to listen will know that I talk about it with excitement because it literally has changed my life. With the help of Poshmark I was able to raise my credit score from a shameful 550 to the mid 700’s.
Also, people automatically assume I get some kinda commission for every sale they make. This is simply not true. The only time I get any kind of “kick back” from Posh is when people shop with the credits they get by using my code. Here’s the breakdown: each Poshmark user has an individual code. A person who downloads the app using a current User’s code gets a $5.00 credit to shop. When the the New User uses the credits they were given to buy something, the Poshmark user who referred the new user to the site gets $5.00 in return. That’s it. NADA MAS!
What Poshmark actually is
It’s a wonderful tool to make money – that’s the simplest explanation.
Poshmark is a platform where people buy & sell new or gently used fashion items, from clothing to bags, shoes and accessories for the entire family. Individual items are sometimes priced at 50% off the shelf or rack price (even at more of a discount at times), usually with the same quality as new. For now, Poshmark is only available anywhere the USPS delivers. Soon, however, it will go global starting with Canada in 2019!
Poshmark is very user friendly: take pictures and write a description of your item and TA-DA! Your item is ready to sell. Also, shipping is also very simple: the buyer pays Poshmark (not you) a flat rate of $6.95 for shipping for up to 5lbs. Poshmark will then email a shipping label to you so it can be printed and put on your package.
Poshmark doesn’t charge for posting but they do take a commission. The commission is simple. On sales of $15 or less, a flat commission is $2.95 charged and on sales of $15.00 or more, their commission is 20%.
The take-away: It is up to you where you take your Poshmark journey. Some simply use it as a way to update their own closets and others (like me) have made a full business out of it.
How Poshmark is different from all the other selling platforms:
Think of Poshmark as the love child of EBay and Instagram, where it has the bones of EBay and the skin of Instagram. Poshmark is very social, but, unlike EBay, you don’t just post it, forget it and hope for a sale. On Poshmark, you post, you share, you communicate and you get to know the person you’re buying from or selling to, as opposed to not even knowing where it’s coming from on EBay. I really like that. I like to know that I’m buying from a real person like me. I like getting to know them through Posh and growing my network this way.
